About Ratio

Our Founding

Ratio EV was born from a unique partnership between two industry powerhouses: FW Thorpe Plc and Ratio Electric. In 2020, these two companies joined forces, combining over 120 years of collective experience in electrical engineering and sustainable technology.

From our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Redditch, we set out to design and produce the most innovative EV charging solutions tailored specifically for the UK market.

Our History

A Legacy of Electrical Engineering Excellence

Our foundation is built on over 120 years of combined electrical engineering expertise. Ratio Electric was established in 1960 and has been a pioneer in power connection and distribution systems, focusing on e-mobility, marine applications, data centres, and industrial solutions. When we joined forces with FW Thorpe Plc, a company with a legacy of engineering excellence dating back to 1936, we created a powerhouse of innovation in the EV charging sector.

Innovative EV Charging Solutions, Locally Produced

At our Redditch facility, we take pride in designing and manufacturing 100% of our io8 and io7 EV chargers. We maintain strong local partnerships, sourcing recycled aluminium castings from Wolverhampton and collaborating with our sister companies, Thorlux Lighting and TRT Lighting, for specialised components. This localised approach ensures superior quality control and supports our commitment to sustainability.
