Project Overview

Kilwaughter, a market leader in the construction materials sector, has completed the installation of three Ratio EV io7 twin-socket charging units at their headquarters in Larne, Northern Ireland. This project demonstrates how strategic EV charging infrastructure can support ambitious ESG objectives whilst seamlessly integrating with existing renewable energy systems.

The Client

Kilwaughter is a leading company in the construction materials sector that has recently been acquired by Saint-Gobain, a global construction materials giant. Based in Larne, Northern Ireland, the company has embarked on a significant Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) journey, with sustainability and carbon reduction at the heart of their operational strategy.

The Challenge

Following their acquisition by Saint-Gobain, Kilwaughter sought to expand their electric vehicle charging capabilities as part of their enhanced ESG commitments.

The company faced several key considerations:

  • Integration with their existing substantial solar energy installation at headquarters
  • Compatibility with on-site renewable energy infrastructure
  • The need for accurate, data-driven insights to support ESG reporting requirements
  • Providing accessible charging for both employees and visitors
  • Ensuring scalability as their fleet transitions to electric vehicles
  • Maintaining operational continuity during installation

The Solution

Working with Weev, a local EV charging specialist, Kilwaughter selected the Ratio EV io7 charging system.

The installation includes:

  • Three 22kW io7 twin-socket chargers positioned at the front of their headquarters
  • Capacity for six electric vehicles to charge simultaneously
  • Integration with Weev’s InSite Charge Point Management System (CPMS)
  • Real-time monitoring and data collection capabilities
  • Seamless integration with existing solar energy infrastructure

The io7’s advanced features proved ideal for Kilwaughter’s requirements, offering the technical capability to support their ESG reporting needs whilst providing an aesthetically pleasing solution that complements their site’s functional layout.

The Installation Process

Weev’s collaborative approach ensured smooth project delivery:

1. Strategic Planning

  • Assessment of existing renewable energy infrastructure
  • Integration planning with on-site solar installation
  • ESG reporting requirements analysis

2. Collaborative Implementation

  • Close collaboration with Kilwaughter’s Operations Team
  • Careful scheduling to minimise disruption to daily activities
  • Strategic positioning of chargers at the headquarters’ front entrance

3. System Integration

  • Connection to Weev’s InSite CPMS for comprehensive data management
  • Real-time monitoring capabilities setup
  • Scalable management system configuration

The installation was completed with minimal disruption to Kilwaughter’s operations, thanks to the careful coordination between Weev and the client’s operations team.
