NMIS Upgrades EV Charging Infrastructure with Ratio EV
Project Overview
NMIS upgraded its site with Ratio io6 and io7 chargers, providing a robust, load-managed charging solution that supports staff, visitors and future EV growth.
The Client
The National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) supports manufacturers across Scotland and the wider UK. Through advanced research and development, skills training, and innovation support, NMIS helps industry become more productive, sustainable, and future-ready. The site featured in this case study is located at 3 Netherton Square, Paisley, PA3 2EF.
The Challenge
NMIS required a robust and future-proof EV charging solution
that could support both staff and visitors while working within existing site constraints. A key challenge was managing the site’s available power capacity, as cabling had already been installed by a previous contractor.
The exposed nature of the site also meant that all equipment
needed to be durable and suitable for harsh outdoor conditions. In addition, NMIS wanted to ensure a seamless charging experience without compromising operational reliability.
The Solution
Following a competitive tender process via PCS, where Ratio
hardware and installer Jorro were selected from 16 companies, the project team designed a tailored charging solution focused on reliability, quality, and scalability. An on-site survey was carried out to assess existing bases and cabling, followed by a detailed system design.
The final installation included three Ratio EV io6 chargers
installed on posts at the front of the site, with seven io7 chargers and one rapid charger positioned to the rear. To manage power effectively, cloud-based load management was implemented using Fuuse, ensuring optimal performance without the need for major electrical upgrades.
The Installation Process
- The project began with a detailed site survey involving NMIS and Jorro to review the existing infrastructure.
- Once the design and specification were agreed, all costs—including back-office software and maintenance—were
submitted as part of the tender. - After the project was awarded, the team identified that some groundworks and existing cabling were not fit for purpose. This was resolved by replacing sections of cabling and resurfacing the EV bases.
- The chargers were then installed, commissioned on site, fully tested with Fuuse, and handed over to the client.
The full project took 4 months from start to completion.

Since installation, NMIS has benefited from a dependable
and scalable EV charging infrastructure that supports daily
operations for both staff and visitors.
The system has proven reliable following initial commissioning, and the integrated lighting has been particularly appreciated by staff during winter months. The solution provides NMIS with confidence that existing power capacity is being managed effectively, while also allowing for future expansion as EV usage increases.
